Walk a Day... #1

Walk a Day in a Lupus Survivor's Shoes

You can never know the way a person is feeling until you have really  walked in their shoes.  A Lupus Survivor walks in so many different ways to hide the rugged shoes they are walking in day to day.

A Lupus Survivor wakes early in the am after sleeping only 2 hours the night before. He or she is groggy and tired from fighting off the aches and pains of the night.  His or her head is aching due to lack of sleep and they are lying in bed wondering what is the best way to get out of bed with the least pain.    After several attempts the lupus survivor finally sits up only to be dizzy from rising too from the bed too quickly.  They sit at the edge of their bed and attempt to feel the ground.  Once the ground is felt and the dizziness wears off the lupus survivor attempts to stand.  Only to be knocked back down b/c he/she did not prepare for the pains in their knees.  After shaking off that pain the lupus survivor finally stands from the bed and begins to place one foot in front of the other to walk to the bathroom.  As the lupus survivor takes what most see as a a long walk to the bathroom they bend in pain just to sit on the toilet. If they are men they painfully stand hoping the urine flow comes quickly.  The lupus survivor then goes to wash his/her hands.  They try to turn the knobs but it is difficult. So they struggle to do what is usually a simple task and finally get the water on.  The lupus survivor washes their hands & decides that since the  water is on let's not wait to brush the teeth.  As the lupus survivor goes to grab his/her toothbrush, due to the pain in their hands they drop the toothbrush in the sink.  Struggling to get the toothbrush out the sink they finally retrieve it and go to squeeze the toothpaste onto the brush.  Carefully placing heir hands around the tube to gather enough energy and strength to squeeze it.  Once the toothpaste is placed on the brush the lupus survivor works hard to lift their arms to move in a circular motion to brush their teeth for the longest two minutes of their lives. Just think the day has only just begun.  But, the lupus survivor pushes on "By Any Means Necessary!"

Stay tuned.  The lupus survivor struggle continues....
