LUPUS IN COLOR PRESENTS
FLIGHT OF THE BUTTERFLIES
Flight of the Butterflies is a lupus awareness campaign sharing stories of the brave lupus warriors. Many don't understand lupus until they hear the walk of a warrior. Flight of the Butterflies is dedicated to sharing those stories every Friday in the month of May for lupus awareness month.
Flight of the Butterflies Begins.....
Week 3
May 16, 2014
Kelli N. King
My story began in 2006 with a trip to the beach with my family. It was a fun time in the sun. I just didn’t realize that the sunburn I experienced, was the beginning of a long journey of finding a diagnosis.
In 2007, I found myself being the youngest person my cardiologist had ever performed a cardiac catheterization on. My body was trying to tell me something. It was trying to tell me how to put the puzzle together and I just didn’t know how. I was coming down with strep all of the time. I found myself allergic to the sun. Heart working too fast and still trying to figure out what is going on.
Then, I found a doctor that helped me put the pieces to the puzzle all together. On January 21, 2011 I was officially diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). I knew it, but it still took my breath away!
Now, I’m dealing with Lupus, Migraine, Vitamin D Deficiency, Osteoarthritis, Tachycardia, and Pleurisy. Every day I wake up I’m grateful! I’m alive and able to fight another day. This is my journey. It is not for the weak minded. I have to stay positive and on the days I feel like I can’t. I have strong people in my life to remind me of how strong I am. I HAVE LUPUS, BUT LUPUS SURE AS HELL DON’T HAVE ME!
Lupus In Color is excited to present Kelli's story to the world. As a Lupus Warrior she is actively promoting lupus awareness and wearing the armor of strength in doing so. Lupus In Color Salutes you Alicia Jones.
