Flight of the Butterflies is a lupus awareness campaign sharing stories of the brave lupus warriors. Many don't understand lupus until they hear the walk of a warrior. Flight of the Butterflies is dedicated to sharing those stories every Friday in the month of May for lupus awareness month.

Alicia Jones

Hi my name is Alicia I am 38 yrs old.  A few years ago I was telling my doctor I had pain in my knees and she brushed it off for awhile. One year later she told me I had an autoimmune disease and referred me to a rheumatologist. I was then told I had SLE Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Overnight my medicines turned into about a 20 pill a day regimen. I was hospitalized because I was having breathing problems and found out my lungs were inflamed and it caused scar tissue. My pulmonologist is talking about a lung transplant, my rheumatologist has me doing infusions because she said all medicine options have been exhausted and are not working.


I didn't know anything about lupus except what was learned from your wonderful page or google. I suffer severe depression, pain, and memory loss.

My family and friends have accused me of exaggerating and sometimes I feel like I have no support.

I am SCARED,and LONELY but thank you for Lupus in Color on Facebook.
