My Lupie Life…
My name is Tameka Threatts and I was born and raised in Richmond, Va. I gave birth to 2 daughters’ (Ja’Kyah,16) and (Trinity Zion, 6) and I am engaged to the loving, Odgen A. Smith of Kingston, Jamaica by way of Brooklyn, NY. My lupie life begins in the year of 2001 where I had began visiting local emergency rooms in the search to find out why my body had began to fail me. I had symptoms of swollen hands/feet and extreme fatigue. I attributed the symptoms to me just being overworked and tired. The symptoms persisted causing me to worry. The answer was finally given to me as I went to the e.r. for the final time. The e.r. doctor came in and said, “I bet you have Systemic Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis.” I then followed up with my primary care doctor who confirmed I indeed had lupus, it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. For 2 years the uncertainty of my health was now answered. I was relieved because I finally had a reason of why I had some of the symptoms I had. I was then diagnosed with Class 2 Lupus Nephritis which caused the swelling in my feet and hands. A diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Reynaud’s Phenomenon and finally Sjogrens Syndrome was developed over the years. These illnesses come secondary to Lupus.
Living life with lupus has made me a much stronger person. In developing this illness I have a different outlook on life in being more appreciative of each day I am afforded. I know that God will walk with me, never to turn His back and I will have the deliverance that He promised me. I would like for people to look at me and my story and say that I give a person reason to live, to keep going in spite of.
This is my lupie life!
